Streets of Darkness

It all started awhile back. I'd been talkin' to Miss Ally tryin like hell to duck Cap'n Morrisey again. That woman reminded me of Diana from the V series and I'd let her know in a roundabout way. I'd been wonderin' if maybe there were reptile scales underneath that skin o' hers. I'm digressin' sumthin' fierce, ain't I.

Would it help if I told ya I didn't know where the hell I'd been? Hell, I'm gettin' further off track here. Damn. Okay....get a grip, D. You got a long way to go ol' boy and you ain't out the gate yet.

I'd been talkin' to Miss Ally in the hallway of the hospital. There was a commotion goin' on out in the waitin' room. Some woman accusin' a guy of rapin' her. The guy wouldn't shut his damn mouth for two seconds. Tryin to convince the woman to come to the station and give a statement wasn't helpin' either. So, no more Mr. Nice Cop, I arrested her. Took her in and finally got her to calm the hell down.

I got her to tell me the story but there were too many holes in it. More than the story arc o' the Highlander movies. I was gettin tired and then...sumthin' else happened. I kept seein' her chained to sumthin....screamin' for her life. It was like a brief preview of a movie in my head and I'll be damned...came with the onset of a headache to end 'em all.

I'd had to make a decision. The headaches were gettin worse and I couldn't very well collapse only to have an inmate screamin' for someone to pick up my dead ass off the floor of the station. Bad enough even Cap'n Diana had a thing for me (an' not in a good way, folks) but to find me on the floor out cold or dead wouldn't really help matters. I let her out. As I was guiding her out, they just got worse. It was like a boil had formed inside my brain and wasn't going to let up. I coulda swore I'd told her to get her ass outta there and then....the whole world went black. Then, I saw it again...the very mental picture I'd seen earlier when the headaches started but this time, it was happenin' right in front o' me and that's when he came in...the accused rapist. Now, before, this guy wanted her locked up...I guess his mind changed and he became real chivalrous, real quick because when I came to, he was helping her out of the cell and out of the station. I was cuffed to the bed with my keys gone.

When you become a cop, you learn certain things. Concealable cuff keys are a must. You slip it into your belt keeper and the thing sits there til you need it. Not a soul ever thinks of lookin' for an extra key there. I unlocked myself and staggered back to the hospital. It hurt to move my lower jaw and I had to really use whatever was in me to get there. Finally, I sat down in the waitin' room until the doctor saw me.

In the exam room, she's lookin me over and I decided to relax while she did her thing...that's when they showed up. I came around slowly and saw the girl now chloroformin' the doctor and then...he was back with brass knuckles in hand and two punches later....that's it.

Darkness....lasting entirely too. I thought fer sure that this ol' boy was goin home....
