What the Fuck is Wrong With Me?

So I am at the station last night with Sieg when we get a call regarding a hostage situation at the Asylum. We beat ass down there and when we arrived there were a few others. Officer Carmichael, Officer Courtois, and some bitch I didn't know (her badge said Vice on it) were there. The bitch had a taser trained on the inmate that had taken a nurse hostage.

The man was a marine and was flashing back and so I told everyone to stand down - what the fuck do they know about hostage situations anyway? The woman refused. Instead, she advanced on the poor bastard and antagonized him. The marine nearly killed the orderly. I told her to stand down again and she, again, refused. She didn't just refuse, she ignored me like I was a fucking piece of trash. Naturally, my only recourse was to relieve her of her weapon - she was going to get someone killed. Either her, the inmate, or the hostage. Probably all three.

I took her weapon from her, and she attacked me and then stormed out like a jilted teenager. Needless to say, I'll be making a report about her to the Captain.

Honestly, all that wasn't what got to me, though. I learned after the worst of the confrontation was over (Baber and I talked the guy down and got him to release the hostage by telling him the nurse was an informant and had information on HVT's) that this guy was Avedon. Shade had told me about him before, about her fling with him, the rape... she'd put him in the pen to begin with.

Baber and I talked to him awhile and I just felt sick. He's a rapist, a murderer. He's scum! But the only thing I could feel for the guy was compassion. I just wanted to help him, to make that pain on his face go. I don't know what the hell is wrong with me - normally I'd have kicked his ass and called it a day.

Either way, I'm going to try and help this guy. Maybe it's because he's a soldier; that's got to be it. It's the only thing that makes sense.
